The coordination behaviour of 2-((E)-(ferf-butylimino)methyl) phenol towards lanthanide nitrate and chloride salts

Five novel complexes were prepared by reacting 2-((E)-(tert-butylimino)methyl)phenol (HL2) with Ln(NO3)3xH2O (Ln = Gd and Dy ; x 6 5, respectively) LnCl3-6H2O Nd, Dy). The crystal structures of the former two Ln(III) nitrate are isostructural coordination sphere is composed three monodentate HL2 ligands bonded to metal centre through phenolic oxygen atom ions coordinated in a bidentate fashion. Both nine-coordinate SHAPE analysis reveals that they adopted muffin polyhedra geometric type. average Ln-Onitrate Ln-Ophenolate bond lengths 2.5059 2.2816 A, respectively. derived from chloride salts exhibited an octahedral geometry four Schiff base [Ln-Ophenolate distances range 2.229(4) 2.2797(18) A] coordinating equatorial positions [average Ln-Cl length 2.6530 Cl-Ln-Cl angles 180o] axial positions. ligand phenolate proton migrating imino nitrogen give zwitterionic form ligand. There weak C-H-Cl interactions present O-H-N hydrogen bonds also observed packing.
